Our Buford customer’s fridge is freezing all his food. Vegetables, beverage, candy … all frozen overnight. He called us wondering what’s wrong with his refrigerator. Because it is a very common freezer complaint that our tech team receives here at PeachState Refrigeration and Appliance Repair Pro, we wanted to share our answer on our blog.

My Fridge at My House in Buford Is Freezing Everything, What’s Wrong With It?

There could be several possibilities.

#1  Thermostat Set Too High

Look at your fridge, does your refrigerator has a mark imprinted on its thermostat adjusting knob? Or does it seemed it’s erased? Check it out! You need to identify the indicating temperature. Maybe you felt you have set the thermostat at optimum temperature. But in reality, your temperature is set too high.

#2 Coils are Dirty

There are coils present on the outside of your refrigerator (heat exchanging coils or condenser coils) as well as on its inside (evaporator coils). The refrigerator coils serve to act as heat exchanging medium between the refrigerant fluid and its surroundings. If your coils got dirty — covered in dust — your fridge at your Buford house has to work harder to sustain the set freezing temperature.  In some models, this can lead to overcooling.

#3 Leaky Gasket

Gasket lines in the inside of your refrigerator door seal the compartment to prevent exchange of heat between the inside of your refrigerator and your external room environment. In case you have a leaking gasket, your fridge will run continuously, causing everything stored inside it to freeze.

#4 Faulty Thermostat

A thermostat helps to maintain a fixed temperature. If your freezer thermostat is faulty, it can fail to switch off and continue to run, causing your refrigerator to freeze everything that is stored inside it.

#5 Problems in the Damper

If you own a fridge-freezer unit, you will know what a damper is. For those who don’t, it’s basically an assembly that regulates the amount of cool air entering into your fridge from your freezer. A malfunctioning damper could result in excess air, flowing into the fridge compartment and causing the temperature to gradually decrease.
